There’s more to listing your home for sale than placing a sign in the yard or finding a REALTOR to put it in the local listing service. A few simple steps will help ensure your property is attractive to buyers, even if there are other homes for sale in your neighborhood. Sure, cleaning is important in selling your home, but there are a few more steps that most people don’t think about.
Curb Appeal is Like the Outfit Your Home is Wearing
And it should look good. Curb appeal is what attracts buyers to the property in the first place. Having the lawn is cut, edged, and weeded is a given but also think about the flowerbeds, bushes, and trees. Making sure limbs are trimmed, adding new mulch, and even placing a fresh batch of colorful flowers can make a huge difference. Remove your personal décor (inside and out) and if you have a mailbox, consider updating to look more welcoming. Minor items like updating the street number painted on the curb or adding to the house will also set your property apart.
The Front Door is the Entryway to a New Home
It’s the first door to a new home for anyone looking at buying your home. Is it fresh and welcoming? Does it make them want to come on in? You’d be surprised what adding just a little color can do and you may even notice more interest. One thing you want to consider if you think it’s not important if the front door is outdated then can the same be said for the interior? Think like a buyer. It may be the first door they enter but can also be the last they want to close if it’s inviting.
Update a Little for a Big Impact on the Sale
You don’t need to go all out with renovations but making minor repairs and updates throughout the home can have a huge impact on the offers. Change out broken blinds and burnt out lightbulbs. Plug covers being replaced can make a big difference too. Are the original light covers still intact? Replace them with a modern update. Paint touch ups with a neutral color can help (no accent walls please) and replacing outdated countertops. One of the most important rooms in any home is the kitchen. Create a space that makes people want to host their dinner parties.
